Passport and
Visa requirements for European Citizens:
Residents of most European countries don’t need a visa if
you are not staying more than 90 days, but be aware that in order
to enter the country it is required that you are in possession
of a return ticket or in some cases proof of onward travel. Note
that visa requirements for South American countries can change
very quickly so you should always check with the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs of you country or the destination country's embassy. If
you are travelling to Bolivia via the USA please note that you
need a machine-readable passport.
Passport and Visa requirements
for U.S. Citizens: The Bolivian government has announced
that effective December 1, 2007, U.S. citizens seeking to enter
Bolivia as tourists must obtain an entry visa. Please contact
the US Embassy in La Paz, the Bolivian Embassy in Washington DC
or a Bolivian consulate near you to obtain details on how to apply
for a visa.

here for more information on visa requirements for your particular
country or to obtain the address of a Bolivian Consulate near
you. If your trip includes passages to either Peru, Chile or Argentina
please click
here for general information or consult a Bolivian consulate
near you.
Baggage: For most
our tours it is recommended to travel "light" and only
to travel with the necessary preferably limiting your luggage
to 1 big traveller bag and 1 smaller for the necessities of the
day. For trekking and mountaineering we recommend that you travel
with no more than 12kg/26lb in order not to overload the porters
and the mules/lamas (you have the possibility to leave luggage
in La Paz with LIPIKO TOURS). Travelling light also means more
room for souvenirs on the way home!!
Health and vaccinations:
It is recommended that participants in any of our tours are in
good physical condition because of the altitude and the climatic
variations. Life on the Altiplano is rough - also for the traveller!!
Before you travel to South America you should always consult your
doctor and check which vaccinations are recommended. At the moment
the following vaccinations are recommended for travelling to Bolivia:
- Hepatitis A+B
- Typhoid
- Yellow Fever (if travelling to affected areas)
- Rabies
- Tetanus-diphtheria
NB. Malaria is not very widespread in Bolivia and it is only
necessary to take precautions against malaria if you are visiting
places under 2500m/8.202ft of altitude, mainly in some parts of
the departments of Santa Cruz, Beni and Pando.
Staff: An experienced
guide/driver will accompany you on the whole trip. The guide will
be the leader of the tour and will make decisions on the exact
route to take. He has the authority to change the route if he
for some reason considers it too dangerous.
Food: The driver
is in charge of breakfast and lunch and in the evening you are
ensured a healthy meal from NOMAD CHEF who specialises in travel
food. Meals will be a mix of traditional Bolivian and European
food prepared by a reputed French chef.
Transport: All transport
is undertaken in 4-wheel drive vehicles or bus.
Accommodation: Depending
on where we overnight it will either be in a hotel, home stay,
in a shelter or camping in either tents or bivouac.
Responsible travelling:
It is important to remember that the ecological balance is very
fragile and can easily be damaged. We ask each participant to
take care of the environment and not to leave any litter in nature.
Even if some sites are already polluted make sure that you take
your garbage with you!! Your driver will always have a garbage
bag with him that he will dispose of in the proper way.
Last but not least..:
The unforeseen happens - and nowhere more than in Bolivia! The
plane might be late or the bus might break down and remember that
life works at a different pace here and people will not have the
same sense of timekeeping like at home. Try to accept this as
a part of the charm of travelling in a relaxed country. We always
incorporate extra time for these things, sometimes too much and
sometimes not enough; in either case we try to make sure that
you get the best out of it!!
If you still
have unanswered questions about your trip to Bolivia we are more
than happy to help you so don't hesitate to contact us and we
wish you a great holiday with LIPIKO TOURS!
