- Arrival – El Alto Airport (4100m/13.451ft)
– La Paz (3663m/12.018ft)
We pick you up at the El Alto airport, the highest
commercial airport in the world, and depending
on your time of arrival there might be time for
a tour of the city and dinner after you get installed
at the hotel. Hotel. Distance: 14km/9mi.

2 - La Paz City
Tour – Valle de la Luna (3315m/10.876ft)
At 08h00 we meet to go on a private tour of
the city. We’ll visit a few museums as
well as the church and convent San Francisco.
After lunch we descend to the southern part
of La Paz to visit the Valle de la Luna; mistakenly
called a valley the Valle de la Luna is made
up of strange rock formations that give it its
lunar landscape. We return to the centre in
the late-afternoon and the evening is free to
explore La Paz by night. Hotel. Distance:

- La Paz – Copacabana – Trek Isla
del Sol - Yumani
At 07:30 we leave for Copacabana in a private
vehicle. The road runs parallel to the Titicaca
Lake and the Cordillera Real until Copacabana
(approx. 3h30). Here a small boat will take us
to the extreme north of the Isla del Sol, to the
Inca ruins of Chincana (3h) from where we start
our trek by following the island's crest to the
village of Yumani in the south (approx. 3-4 hours
hike). Hotel. Distance: 161km/100mi. Transport:

- Yumani – Yampupata – Trek –
Copacabana – La Paz
We walk down the almost 500 steps of the magnificent
stone staircase that leads to the Fuente del Inca
and here the boat is waiting to take us to Yampupata.
We hike along the bay to the Virgin of Lourdes
passing by the lost village Zampaya (4-5h). We
then take the boat to Copacabana and from here
a car back to La Paz. Hotel. Distance:

5 - La Paz –
Pinaya (3900m/12.795ft) - Puente Roto (4550m/14.927ft)
We leave the hotel in a private vehicle at 07:45
to go to Pinaya (3h30), a small village at the
foot of the Illimani at 3900m/12.795ft of altitude.
Here we meet with our mule-driver crew and their
animals before we begin our trek to the village
Puente Roto “Broken Bridge”, the
most popular base camp on the west face of the
Illimani. Camping. Trek: 3h. Elevation:

- Puente Roto – Mina Aguila (4400m/14.435ft)
We continue our trek following an old trail on
the western face of the Illimani. The Illimani
is the 2nd highest mountain in Bolivia and the
name means “Golden Eagle” in Aymara.
Being the highest mountain in the Cordillera Real
and its close proximity to La Paz makes this one
of the most popular mountains for mountain climbing.
We reach Mina Aguilla after a 6 hour hike where
we set up our camp. Camping. Trek: 6h.

- Mina Aguila – Tutural Pampa (4000m/13.123ft)
Still on the flanks of the Illimani we ascend
to a mountain pass situated at approx. 4800m/15.748ft
of altitude. From here we walk down into a valley
at the feet of Mururata to the Tutural Pampa ranch.

- Tutural Pampa – Mina Bolsa Blanca –
Río Malpaso (3900m/12.795ft)
We start today’s trek by walking down to
the village Tres Rios. From here the mine Bolsa
Negra (3700m/12.139ft-2h hike) is not far away
and we turn right into a valley close to the Cerro
Wari Wachana and a long ascend brings us to the
Mina Bolsa Blanca (4800m/15.748ft - 3h hike).
We walk down to the Rio Malpaso where we install

- Río Malpaso – Lambate (3420m/11.220ft)
We continue our descend during approx. 1h30 until
we reach the trail leading to the Tutural ranch
(3400m/11.154ft). From here we mount a small path
on the flanks of the Cerro Pararani, passing a
mountain pass at 3900m/12.792ft before walking
down to the village of Lambate. Camping.

- Lambate – Kirkuma (2540m/8.333ft)
From Lambate a long descend, with an elevation
of more than 1000m/3.280ft, is waiting for us.
We cross fields with traditional crops before
we end our descend at the river Chunga Mayu (2250m/7.382ft),
from where we start our ascend to the community
of Kirkuma. Behind us we are able to observe the
north-east face of the Illimani. Camping.

- Kirkuma – Laguna Kasiri (3950m/12.959ft)
Today we start early with a hard ascend (elevation
+1400m/4.593ft). Our route slowly penetrates into
the forest while we leave the river Kasiri and
continue on the flanks of the Cerro Choro Monte.
Now it’s time for a well deserved break
to admire the landscape and to get refreshed.
After the break we continue our hike and arrive
at Laguna Kasiri where we install our camp at
the banks of the lake. Camping. Trek:

- Laguna Kasiri – Solaka (3470m/11.384ft)
We start today’s trek by hiking along the
Laguna Kasiri and walk up a trail which brings
us to a mountain pass at (4180m/13.714ft). After
a small hike we find ourselves on the pre-Colombian
trails of the Yunga Cruz trek until we reach Solaka
which is our stage for today. Camping.

- Solaka – Cerro Duraznuni (2610m/8.563ft)
After having crossed the last stream of this part
of our trek, we finally enter the jungle. The
vegetation gets denser with numerous creepers
across the trails that oblige the guide to use
his machete. We might stumble upon a few gold-diggers
who try their luck in some of the many unexplored
valleys in this region. We put up our tents on
a grassy flat, before the Cerro Duraznuni, from
where we can enjoy the panoramic view. Here we
have to be extra attentive once night falls because
we might be lucky to receive a visit from the
Jucumari (small Andean bear that is also commonly
known as the spectacled bear). Camping.

- Cerro Duraznuni – Chulumani (1740m/5.708ft)
As we continue to walk down the temperature continues
to rise. We leave the jungle and emerge on the
coca and coffee plantations of the Sikilini Ranch
(1850m/6.069ft) and we regain the trail which
takes us to Chulumani, situated on the valley’s
other mountainside. Hotel. Trek: 4h. Elevation:

Chulumani –
Puente Villa (1200m/3.937ft)
From Chulumani we gradually ascend towards the
Tusiwaya mountain pass (2318m/7.605ft), still
surrounded by coca and coffee plantations we
cross the Paraiso and Wayrapata ranches, before
we walk back down and arrive at today’s

16 - Puente Villa
– Sirupaya (1500m/4.921ft)
We continue to climb progressively higher along
the river Takesi until we reach the small village
of Yanacachi. From here we carry on along the
river Unduavi to Sirupaya where we’ll

Sirupaya – Yolosa (1185m/3.887ft)
Before we walk down to Yolosa our hike takes us
to a much higher altitude. We follow a little frequented
trail running though the subtropical forests of
the south Yungas. We then pass the small mountain
pass Piki Cara Grande at 3248m/10.656ft before we
hike down to San Miguel de la Miel where we follow
the river San Juan all the way to Yolosa. Hotel.

– Yolosa – Coroico (1715m/5.626ft)
Of the 17 days of trek between the Altiplano and
the Yungas today will be the easiest. A short
hike will bring us to the famous village Coroico
in the north Yungas which is situated at an overhang
at 1715m/5.626ft and dominates the surrounding

Today we’ll rest in Coroico and you have
the opportunity to explore the surroundings of
Coroico or just relax by the pool. Hotel.

- Coroico – Chairo (1400m/4.593ft) –
San Francisco (1613m/5.292ft)
After breakfast a car will bring us to Chairo
which is a couple of kilometres away. Here we
meet the mule drivers and after having charged
the animals we continue our trek on another Inca
trail known under the name the Choro trail. This
trail connects the north Yungas and La Paz. On
the way we’ll visit the gardens of a Japanese
hermit before we continue in direction San Francisco.
We pass the Chairo and Kuskapa bridge before we
start the “descend of the devil” and
a couple of kilometres further we arrive at San

From San Francisco our trek continues through
the valley and we pass the Choro Ranch. We follow
the river Chukura that takes us to Challapampa

Still following the river Chukura we hike to the

- Zanja Pampa - Uma Palka (3800m/12.467ft)
From Zanja Pampa we walk uphill for 3 to 4 hours
and from here another 2 hours brings us to the
Laguna Chiar Khota (4550m/14.928ft) which lies
on the slopes of the Cerro Matilde (5000m/16.404ft),
and today’s stage ends at Uma Palka where
we set up camp. Camping. Trek: 6h. Elevation:

- Uma Palka - Botijlaca - Laguna Liviñosa
(4270m/14.009ft)
While we gradually ascend the Cordillera Real
we leave behind us the verdant forests of the
Yungas to discover a stony and barren mountain
scenery. The temperate climate also changes to
a cooler climate. From Uma Palka we walk uphill
for approximately 3 hours to pass a mountain pass
at 4600m/15.092ft. We move on the slopes of the
Tikimani (5519m/18.107ft), and we pass a high
altitude lake before walking back down for 2 to
3 hours to Botijlaca, which lies in a valley which
is more and more narrow. From here we walk back
up to the Laguna Liviñosa where we set

- Laguna
Liviñosa - Laguna Chiar Khota (4760m/15.617ft)
Today we enter the Torini Valley and from here
we can gradually see the Huayna Potosi. From the
Laguna Liviñosa we start a long walk uphill
where we pass two mountain passes (Jallayko 5025m/16.486ft
and Jistaña 4930m/16.175ft) before we arrive
at the Laguna Chiar Khota (not to be confused
with the lake in day 23). This is the base camp
for the climb of the Condoriri and a number of
other climbs ex. the Alpamayo or the Tarija. Camping.

- Laguna Chiar Khota - Paso Austria - Laguna Congelada
- Laguna Juri Khota- Laguna Sistaña (4660m/15.289ft)
From Chiar Khota we climb to pass the mountain
pass Austria (5160m/16.929ft), and from here we
walk back down to the foot of the Condoriri (5650m/18.537ft),
towards the Laguna Congelada that gets its name
from the 2 glaciers that pour into it. From this
little wonder of the Cordillera we continue our
decent towards the Laguna Juri Khota and from
here we pursue to the Laguna Sistaña where

Laguna Sistaña - Laguna Kotia (4460m/14.633ft)
We start the day by passing the mountain pass
Milluni (4920m/16.142ft) before arriving to the
boggy zone between the Laguna Sorakhota and Ajwani.
From here we descend to Paso Contador (4760m/15.617ft)
where we reach the Laguna Kotia. Camping.
Trek: 6h. Elevation: +570m/-770m, +1.870ft/-2.526ft.

- Laguna Kotia - Paso Moro Khala - Vinuara (4540m/14.895ft)
From the Laguna Kotia we continue on the south-west
mountainside and start hiking uphill in a zone
with many lakes. We cut through the Cordillera
between the Cerro Jango Laya and the Cerro Mullu
Aparchita before reaching the Moro Khala mountain
pass at 5000m/16.404ft. From here we walk down
to our campsite on Vinuara, at the foot of the
massif Jankho Laya, situated in front of the glacier
Ankhohoyo (“white fence”). Camping.

- Vinuara - Paso Waraco – Palca (3985m/13.074ft)
From Vinuara we walk down to the trail to Jankolaya
(3380m/11.089ft). From here we continue our hike
towards the mountain pass. We take a detour to
see the Lago Leche (“the milk lake”)
and the majestic Chachacomani (6074m/19.928ft),
before passing by the small lake of Cotapata (4685m/15.371ft).
By mid-afternoon we arrive at Palca where we set
up camp at the river bank. Camping. Trek:

- Palca - Paso Negruni - Valle Negruni (4400m/14.436ft)
A long hike uphill along the rivers Waraco and
Chiquini awaits us, and we cross the Negruni mountain
pass before arriving in the Negruni valley where

- Valle Negruni - Paso Sarani - Jiska Cocoyo (3900m/12.795ft)
We continue our trek in the deeply embanked valley
of Negruni between the massifs Warawarani (5390m/17.684ft)
and Filo Rumca (5510m/18.077ft), and an uphill
hike brings us to the village of Chajolpaya (4090m/13.419ft).
We hike though a rather big valley and later on
the slopes of the Wiluyu Janq’uma which
brings us to the Sarani mountain pass (4520m/14.829ft).
From here we walk down to the Sarani valley towards
the mining village Jiska Cocoyo, situated close
to the Candelaria mines (3500m/11.483ft). Camping.

- Jiska Cocoyo - Utjaña Pampa (3900m/12.795ft)
From Cocoyo we hike towards the mountain pass
of Khorvasini (4475m/14.682ft), before descending
on the north-east slope of the Illampu until the
Utjaña Pampa ranch. This region is known
for its goldmines that are still exploited today.

- Utjaña Pampa - Paso Illampu - Lacatiya

After a hearty breakfast we start the day by hiking
up to the Illampu mountain pass (4750m/15.584ft).
From here we have an exceptional view of the Illampu’s
north peak (6370m/20.899ft) and the Schulze Peak
(5950m/19.521ft) from where we walk down to Lacatiya
which is our stage of the day. Camping.

- Lacatiya - Laguna Illampu - Laguna Chilata (4200m/13.780ft)
From our camp we hike up to the Laguna Illampu
(4300m/14.108ft), and from here we move onwards
on the slopes of the massif Illampu until the
Laguna Chilata, where we set up camp. Camping.

- Laguna Chilata - Laguna Glaciar (5038m/16.529ft)

We leave in the morning to hike up to the Laguna
Glaciar, which gets its name from the glacier
that literally falls into its shore (4/5h). From
her we have an excellent view on the Lake Titicaca,
the Sorata Valley and the Andes Mountains! In
the afternoon we walk back down to our camp close
to the Laguna Chilata. Camping. Trek:

- Laguna Chilata - Sorata (2700m/8858ft)
We walk down to Sorata in the morning and the
rest of the day is free to discover this nice

- Sorata - Charazani – Lagunillas (3780m/12.402ft)
A long day awaits us before we reach the Cordillera
Apolobamba. Today we are going to rest our legs
while a private 4x4 brings us to our destination.
We leave the hotel, after breakfast, at 07h30
and we drive parallel to the legendary Lake Titicaca
before driving through multiple villages typical
of the Altiplano. Our route brings us to the chapels
of the villages Carabuco and Escoma also called
the “Sistine” of Bolivia. After lunch
we pass several mountain passes and hooks which
take us high enough to be able to admire the Cordillera
Apolobamba and its magnificent summit Akamani
(5666m/18.589ft). Mid-afternoon we arrive at the
Ulla Ulla national park which shelters close to
3000 vicuñas and a multitude of Condors.
We arrive at the Charazani where we can take a
swim in the thermal waters (if time permits).
Another couple of hours and we arrive at the village

- Lagunillas - Curva - Jatunpampa - Incacancha
(4100m/13.451ft)
We start our hike from the inn around 07h45 and
walk in the direction of Curva (3780m/12.402ft),
a village in the traditional style of the region.
We visit the hospital of the healers where they
still heal with the regional plants and after
another 2 hours we arrive at Jatunpampa where
we’ll have lunch. We continue our trek by
passing the two sacred mountain passes Moyokaka
(4500m/14.764ft) and Tambillo (4700m/15.420ft)
where the Bolivians give offerings during the
carnival in February. Behind us we are able to
see the Cordillera Real. During approximately
1 ½ hours we walk down through the valley
until Incacancha (meaning “Inca ruins”)
where we set up camp on the river bank. Camping.

- Incacancha - Mil Curvas - Paso Viscachani -
Sunchulli (4600m/15.092ft)
On our second day of hiking in the Cordillera
Apolobamba we leave our camp around 07h45 and
start off with a quite rough ascend of almost
2 hours to the Mil Curvas mountain pass at 4585m/15.043ft
(Mil Curvas meaning “thousand curves”).
We arrive at a small high altitude lake where
peace reigns and we’ll have lunch in the
valley at the foot of the goldmines. After lunch
we start the ascend of the second mountain pass
of the day; the Viscachani at 4825m/15.830ft.
In front of us we can see the Huayna Sunchulli
that bashfully shows itself. We walk down during
approximately one hour to reach the goldmine Virgen
del Rosario where we can meet the miners in their
own environment and maybe buy a bit of gold dust.
In the late afternoon we stroll around in the
“Pueblo Perdido” close to the mine.

- Sunchulli - Paso Sunchulli - Paso Koppe - Pauchi
Cocho (3700m/12.139ft)
From our camp we hike along a steep slope to reach
the mountain pass Sunchulli (4905m/16.093ft).
Again we stumble across a small lake at the foot
of an imposing glacier. After a small descend
we take a break and have our lunch. After lunch
a 2 hour hike brings us to the Koppe mountain
pass (4930m/16.175ft), here we can appreciate
the lunar landscapes of the Azanjoce Valley and
we have a surprise panorama of the Andes. We arrive
at our campsite Pauchi Cocho after a long descend
of another 2 hours. Camping. Trek 6h.

- Pauchi Cocho - Paso de Quimza Cruz - Paso de
Pelechuco - Pelechuco (3993m/13.100ft)
Today we pass 3 consecutive mountain passes: Pichuara
4370m/14.337ft, Quimza Cruz 4550m/14.928ft and
Pelechuco 4700m/15.420ft. We walk down into the
valley of Hilo Hilo by a small trail before we
climb almost 5 hours to the Pelechuco mountain
pass. We pass several small villages typical of
the region with their hay roofs, and maybe we’ll
also see some Condors. After a descend of 2 hours
we can observe the majestic Katantica (5560m/18.241ft)
which overhangs the valley, and we’ll arrive
in Pelechuco late afternoon. Camping.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we meet
our new group of mule drivers and their animals.
This group will accompany us all the way to Beni.
We start our trek in direction Nakara and then
we continue towards the mountain pass Sanchez
where we install our camp. Camping. Trek:

Casiquebrado - Moxos
Today’s hike is also approximately 7 hours
so we want to make sure we leave early. During
the day we can appreciate the changes in landscape
because the vegetation becomes denser the further
we walk down towards Moxos. We are now in the
Madidi National Park, considered one of the richests
National Parks in the world in terms of biodiversity.

After breakfast we continue our hike by a descend
to the river Tuichi, from where we carry on towards
Virgen del Rosario. This community is characterised
by the friendliness of the inhabitants and they
will make sure we have a good time. Camping.

- Virgen Del Rosario - Pata - Santa Cruz Del Valle
Ameno – Apolo (1999m/6.558ft)
We leave early so we’ll be able to reach
Pata around noon. After lunch we continue towards
Santa Cruz del Valle Ameno from where a private
vehicule will take us to Apolo. Shelter.

- Apolo - Machua - Chipilusani - Santa Teresa
- Rio Macahariapo
After breakfast the 4x4 will take us from Apolo
to Machua. From here we continue our trek until
Rio Macahariapo passing the Serrania de Hhayra
Pata on our way to Santa Teresa. We instal our
camp close to the river. Camping. Trek:

- Rio Machiarapu - 3 de Mayo - Turnia
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we leave
to visit the community 3 de Mayo. This is a small
community in the heart of the serrania. And after
6 hours trek we arrive at Turnia where we set

-Turnia - Ruinas de Cuchiwani
From Turnia we head towards the ruins of Cuchiwani.
A six hour trek awaits us before we can enjoy
the relics. We install our camp close to the ruins.

- Ruinas de Cuchiwani - Mamacona
We leave early in the morning for a 7 hours trek
that brings us the community of Mamacona where
we set up our camp for the night. Camping.

- Mamacona - K'umu K'aspi
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we start
our hike. A 6 hour hike in a relaxed tempo brings
us to K’umu K’aspi where we will overnight.

- K'umu K'aspi - Pie de la Serrania Eslabon
Today will be one of the longest of the whole
trek. We have 8 hours of hike till we reach the
foot of the Serrania de la Eslabon where we set

- Pie de la Serrania Eslabon - Arroyo Pico - Rio
Tuichi
After breakfast we cross the Serrania to reach
the Rio Tuichi. A 7 hours hike brings us to our
camp on the river bank. Camping. Trek:

- Rio Tuichi - Rurrenabaque
Today we rest our legs and embark on a 5 hour
boattrip on the Rio Tuichi that brings us to Rurrenabaque.

- Rurrenabaque – Park Madidi San Miguel
de Bala - Rurrenabaque
Our friends from
San Miguel de Bala come to pick us up from Rurrenabaque.
A 40min boat trip on the river Beni brings us
into the jungle to the eco-shelter where we well
arrived start by visiting the surroundings. At
about 1km from the shelter we can swim in a small
natural swimming pool with a waterfall of crystalline
water. Once we return to the shelter we can appreciate
the culinary skills of this small community and
after lunch a guide shows us around the community
and explains to us the daily life of the inhabitants.
Late afternoon we return to Rurrenabaque and the
evening is free. Hotel. Transport: 00h40.

- Rurrenabaque - Pampa
After breakfast a jeep takes us to the pampa.
It takes approximately 3 hours to reach the village
Santa Rosa where we’ll have lunch. From
here we continue by jeep to the river Yacuma where
a motor pirogue brings us to our camp. During
the 3 hour trip we can observe some of the birds,
animals and reptiles of the area. Shelter.

- Pampa - Rurrenabaque
Today we get up at 05h30 in order to observe the
animals at dawn. We leave by boat and at this
time of the day we have a better chance to see
the animals because early in the morning they
hunt for food - we will also go hunting for our
breakfast at the camp around 07h30!! Around 09h00
we go for a 3 hour trek in the jungle and we return
to the camp again for lunch. After lunch the boat
brings us back to Santa Rosa where the car is
waiting to return to Rurrenabaque. Hotel.
Distance: car 140km/87mi, boat 50km/31mi. Transport:
6h30. Visit: 4h00. B/L

- Rurrenabaque - La Paz
The morning is free to enjoy Rurrenabaque and
at 12h35 we fly back to La Paz. Our team will
pick us up at the airport and bring us to the
